January 26, 2011 - NYSBA Annual Meeting

January 26th was one day of the week long annual meeting of the New York State Bar Association in New York City. More importantly the NYSBA Committee on Animals and the Law sponsored an excellent continuing legal education class on Ethical Considerations in the Practice of Animal Law. The speakers on ethics in the practice of animal law and in prosecuting animal cruelty investigations included Yolanda Eisenstein, Jed Painter and Bernadette Ford.

The panel was moderated by Prof. Monroe H. Freedman, a leading scholar in the field of legal ethics.

The Hon. Marcy L. Kahn who discussed her groundbreaking decision in People v. Garcia, 3 Misc. 3d 699 (2004). The Hon. Margaret Taylor who discussed her decision in Brousseau v. Rosenthal, 443 NYS2d 285 (1980). The seminar ended with a presentation by Adrian Hochstadt from the American Veterinary Medical Association.
