Criminal Law Update - Florida Bestiality Case

The New York Daily News reports that a Florida man, Eric Antunes, (a former animal shelter employee) will escape prosecution for performing oral sex on his girlfriend's three-legged pit bull mix breed dog. According to the State Attorney who declined prosecution Mr. Antunes' acts do not fall within the scope of the bestiality law enacted last year in Florida. He was however arrested on allegations of possession of child pornography, according to the Daily News article.

Extremely strange allegations such as these show the need for well thought out and broad animal cruelty and protection statutes which give police and prosecutors the tools they need to bring a variety of conduct that would not even be considered possible by most people before the courts.
