What is believed to be the highest monetary award in Colorado for the death of a pet comes from the case of Lohre v. Posh Maids where a Denver, CO court awarded the plaintiff $65,000 for emotional distress and negligence surrounding the death of her dog when it was let out by the plaintiff’s cleaning service and struck by a car. The cleaning service employees then left the injured and dying dog underneath the plaintiff’s dining room table where it was still alive and according to their testimony ”whimpering a little”.
